I had been wanting to go her for so long. Although my childhood camping experiences were more at private campgrounds, Copper Falls State Park was Kyle’s favorite campground he went to as a child.

He told me about the waterfalls, the beautiful river, but man, this place is magical. From the outside of the park, it doesn’t seem like much, but once you start hiking, it’s unbelievable. If you haven’t been there, you have no idea of the beauty in this state.

From Southern Wisconsin, meaning if you live in Madison or Milwaukee, go north. There is an ancient mountain range in Northern Wisconsin known as the Gogebic Range. Water north of this range even flows in a different direction that the rest of the state (we learned this at Pattison State Park). Although the glaciers in the last Ice Age did cover this portion of the state, it somehow left these waterfalls and amazing things.

It’s not a short drive, and since we’ve moved out west from Milwaukee, it’s interesting taking different routes and seeing the beauty of the driftless region. We had to stop to check the camper and the straps on the bikes, like we always do, then I turned around and found these two mounds and a space between the two. It looked weird, and interesting. I wanted to check it out, but we still had a 4 hr drive ahead of us. I plan on going back.

Once we got to the park, I realized I picked an amazing site. Through the back there was a little walkway to the river, you could hear it running at night, and it made for the most peaceful, amazing camping trip. Is it my favorite? It’s damn close!

We like to spend our trips when it’s just the two of us 1) exploring the park, 2) exploring the area. We drove to Ashland for this trip, neither of us had ever been there. The main road runs right along Lake Superior, it’s pretty cool. The places to go are no where near as cool as things to do in the park. Seriously, the hiking here is amazing. This place needs to be on your bucket list. You will never believe that you are in Wisconsin when you see it.

My pictures don’t do it justice. Seriously, it’s worth the drive! We even had a doe and her fawn walk right through the back of our site. I’ve seen cats, I’ve seen raccoons, this was the first time we’ve had deer this close.

We plan on going back, but whether we have kids or not, I will definitely be planning a family trip with my sister, brother-in-law and niece!
